David Delaney moved to New York City in the late 1990s after being accepted as a composer into the prestigious BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, where he studied under renowned moderators Skip Kennon, Richard Engquist, and Maury Yeston in the advanced program.
Among his accomplished BMI contemporaries—several of whom he collaborated with—were Robert Lopez (Frozen, The Book of Mormon), Jeff Marx (Avenue Q), Amanda Green (Hands on a Hardbody, Mr. Saturday Night), Tom Kitt & Brian Yorkey (Next to Normal, If/Then), and Curtis Moore & Tom Mizer (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).
David has since continued to write with other distinguished BMI alumni, including Nancy Stark, Bill Augustin (But I’m a Cheerleader), Susan Birkenhead (Boop!, Triumph of Love, Jelly’s Last Jam), and Kevin Strader (multiple children’s series). His songs have been showcased in the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) and featured in numerous New York cabarets.
Before relocating to New York, David earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Theory and Composition with an emphasis in Vocal Performance from the University of New Hampshire, where he attended on scholarship.
In 2022, David moved to Southern California with his husband, Koh Mochizuki, Broadway, television and film actor, now at Disneyland's Live Entertainment Talent Casting Department.
All of the music featured on this website was composed, arranged, and often conducted or performed by David, with vocals by various notable Broadway performers—and occasionally David himself (for fun).
